Web 2.0 Part 2 - Collaborative Bookmarking, Microblogging and Social Networks  

  • Duration: 1 day
  • Session times: 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (deliverable hours = 6.5)

This hands-on, interactive class introduces students to some familiar names as well as new concepts and tools related to social media. Discover tools that help collect research, share web resources, distribute information and develop personal learning networks. Explore social media as a tool for educators and librarians both as professional development and for use in the classroom or training environment. Learn tools that help manage these applications.

Objectives

Given descriptions and demonstrations of industry leading tools, students will:

  • Create and explore their own social bookmarking site
    • Share their site with others in the class
    • Add sites and suggest sites to others in the class
    • Discuss classroom and professional applications of this tool
  • Create a microblog
    • Post to a microblog
    • Add friends from class to the microblogging service
    • Discuss classroom and professional applications of this tool
  • Create and explore a social networking account
    • Configure the interface
    • Add widgets
    • Find and add friends from class (or beyond)
    • Discuss classroom and professional applications of this tool
  • Explore media management tools
    • Create and configure an account
    • Add tools to this account
