General

Security Awareness  

  • Duration: Half day
  • Session times: 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. (deliverable hours = 3.0)

Do you worry about identity theft? Are you curious about social networking? We will discuss how to protect your personal information, including resources if you suspect your identity has been stolen. We will dissect various phishing email and 419 scams (also known as advance fee fraud scams). Then we will log on to different social networking sites to discuss various security features to protect your profile from abuse.

Objectives

Given the course materials, instructions and exercises, participants will demonstrate their knowledge of security awareness by being able to:

  • Recognize a phishing email and 419 scams
  • Explain how to report phishing and scam emails to the appropriate organizations
  • Reporting identity theft to the police/government agencies
  • Retrieve your credit report
  • Define social networking and debunking some common myths
  • Create a social network profile (either Facebook or MySpace)
